Dessa Rose, is a story about a runaway slave, Dessa Rose, meeting Ruth, a rich lonely housewife of a southern plantation owner, and their relationship. The story is told between the two as they share experiences and grow closer together as friends, but not before going through troubled times for each of them. Dessa is on the run from the law and an obsessed writer whom Dessa tricked to escape from prison. Ruth is torn between the world of her aristocratic family and the growing feelings she has for one of the slaves on her plantation.
